Rolling out the Laughs
For over twenty years the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow has presented an all killer, no filler night of stand-up, sketch, satire, silliness and songs to towns and cities across Australia and this year is no exception.
With a line-up coming to the Coffs Harbour Jetty Theatre that’s sure to tickle everyone’s funny bone, the festival roadshow are excited to announce their guest comedians Andy Saunders, Lizzy Hoo, Nikki Britton and Sam Taunton with special guest host, Ben Knight.
Andy Saunders: With an impressive and an extraordinary ability to use humour to break down barriers and stereotypes as well as provoke thought in any audience, Andy Saunders takes satire to new heights.
Trenchant observations of human behaviour and sharp material combined with skills in attracting and holding the interest and attention of audiences of all ages are a powerful combination.
Andy has quickly evolved in to one of the most popular and successful acts performing around the country today at a variety of events and venues.
Lizzy Hoo: Lizzy Hoo is many things – a writer, noodle enthusiast, designer, ideas lady, actor, rugby lover, and rescue greyhound owner. Lizzy is also a stand-up comedian who has rapidly become one of Australia’s most exciting new voices.
This debut show saw Lizzy introduce herself to the world, discussing her Chinese Malaysian/Irish Australian mixed-race heritage, and most notably her
one-of-a-kind father (and premier Brisbane ukulele personality) Chan. The show also explored Lizzy’s experiences growing up in suburban Brisbane, shark attacks, Keep Cups, and dating white guys.
Nikki Britton: Nikki Britton started out as an actor and exploded onto the comedy scene in 2011 with her warm, lightning – paced style that has subsequently seen her appear on the Melbourne Comedy Festival Oxfam Gala, ABC’s Comedy Up Late and on The Comedy Channel as part of the Just For Laughs Festival.
You may have also seen Nikki playing the scene-stealing Marlo on Peter Helliar’s How to Stay Married on Network 10, feature in Matt Okine’s The Other Guy and star in the Screen Australia web-series Sheila’s, directed by Hannah and Eliza Riley. She has also appeared as a guest on Network Ten’s The Project and Celebrity Name Game.
With her electrifying stage presence, warmth and personable demeanour, Nikki Britton is one of Australia’s most in-demand comedy talents.
Sam Taunton: Sam Taunton is one of the most exciting new voices in Australian comedy. Bursting onto the scene in 2017 he was nominated for the prestigious Best Newcomer award at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, and has since gone on to perform comedy all over the world, culminating in winning the Pinder Prize at this year’s MCF.
His 2019 solo show, Straight From The Shoulder charmed Australian audiences, selling out rooms around the country, and set himself as one of the hottest Aussie voices on the Australian comedy circuit.
